Remember, you can also limit to material type "maps/atlases" in the PAC (but the sheet maps are not cataloged). For local (San Diego) maps, see

Maps of the campus are available at the Reference Desk and online at http://www.sdsu.edu/campusinfo/directions.html and
ATLASES
- Many reference questions can be answered with an atlas rather than sheet maps*
Atlases can be found in various places, including the Reference Desk, the Ref/Map Collection, the Atlas Tables near the reference desk, the G 1021 range in the Reference stacks and the 3rd floor stacks. They are all in the PAC.
CIA Maps at the Reference Desk.
SHEET MAPS
Remember, the sheet maps are not in the PAC.
To find a sheet map, you can:

- use the various guides on Infodome (Aeronautical charts, Aerial Photographs and Satellite Imagery, Fire Insurance Maps, Gazetteers, Geologic Maps, GIS Data, National Wetlands Inventory Maps, Nautical Charts, Online Maps, Online Maps - California, Outline Maps, Soil Surveys, Topographic Maps). See http://infodome.sdsu.edu/research/guides/maps/index.shtml#finding
- browse the drawers or use the organizational guides attached to each large case

A useful geographical dictionary is the Columbia Gazetteer of the World (Ref Desk G103.5 .C65).
SDPL has an online gazetteer called Gazetteer of the World. (Requires SDPL library card for remote access). Also see http://www.melissadata.com/Lookups/index.htm or http://gazetteer.hometownlocator.com/
Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) USGS.
The GNIS contains information about almost 2 million physical and cultural geographic features in the United States. It is our Nation's official repository of domestic geographic names information.
