RESEARCH INSIGHT

Research Insight (also referred to as Compustat) is available on the Finance Department's web site (http://npv.sdsu.edu/data.htm) where instructions for accessing RI are available. There is a link on this page to a handout that describes how to download an Excel add-on used to retrieve data. The handout also walks students through a few common data requests. However, to do any of this, students need to be linked to a campus network. No access from off campus.


RI contains 20 years of annual data, 12 years of quarterly data, 7 years of business and geographic segment data, and 240 months of stock prices and dividend data. Financial and market data of over 10,300 U.S. and Canadian companies are available, along with the data from over 7,600 inactive companies that no longer file with the SEC due to a merger, liquidation, bankruptcy, etc.
