CIRCULATING MAPS
Policy
Generally, maps do not circulate. Exceptions are made for maps in good condition that are needed for classroom presentations or duplicating (e.g. full-size reproduction, scanning, digitizing, etc). Users must have a valid SDSU library card. Maps circulate only when approved by a librarian. Examples:
- Classroom presentations. Maps circulate to SDSU patrons for use in classroom presentations. These materials circulate only for the duration of the class, unless the class at 8:00 am, in which case the material may be checked out the previous day. Or the class is in the evening, in which case the map may be returned the following morning.
- Duplicating Maps may also circulate to SDSU patrons who need to use a duplicating technique unavailable in the library (i.e. full size reproduction, digitizing, scanning, photographing, etc.) These materials circulate for a maximum of one week.
Procedures
Check out
The name, scale, date, and producer of the map (if known) should be recorded on a yellow circulation slip, along with the patron's name, SDSU ID, telephone number, and due date.
Maps approved for circulation are placed in tubes, which are located behind the reference desk. Most maps need to be rolled and fit into the tubes. If maps have a fold, please unfold them before rolling them up. A date due slip should be attached to each tube.
Check in
After checking to see that the maps returned match the yellow circulation card, unroll the maps and return them to the maps reshelving tray in the map collection.
