If a patron is seriously injured, call 911 immediately.

For less serious injuries, call the University Police at the non-emergency number, x41991. They will come fill out an injury report.

This is necessary even if the patron wants to refuse medical attention. Liability, in the legal sense, pertains to the university rather than the library. The police have been designated by the university to respond to these situations. Police reports are needed to document whatever happened in the case of a lawsuit. If the patron wants to refuse medical attention, that is their prerogative, but the police must still complete injury forms. (per Mark Lester, 12/13/08)
