North American Industry Classification System (NAICS): http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/naics.html

"The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is replacing the U.S. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system. NAICS was developed jointly by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to provide new comparability in statistics about business activity across North America." --from the NAICS site.

The last revision of the SIC codes by the U.S. Government took place in 1987. Since the creation of the NAICS system these codes have begun to replace the SIC codes.
