Imperial Valley Campus

The SDSU Imperial Valley campus (1959) is older than the CSU System (which was created in 1972).

IVC is 7 blocks from the US-Mexico border.

The Imperial Valley is 4597 square miles of small towns and farms. Many (if not most) students are first generation college students who are fluent in both Spanish and English.

Classes taught at the Imperial Valley campus in 1959 were in classrooms at El Centro High School.

The Imperial Valley campus was only the 3rd branch (satellite) campus in the entire California State College system

The Imperial Valley campus was the first of three SDSU branch (satellite) campuses, and is the only one still functioning as a branch campus today

The North County campus is now CSU-San Marcos

The South County campus was run from Southwestern Community College, and is now closed.

In 1959 approximately 40% of primary and secondary teachers in Imperial County lacked an undergraduate degree and teaching credential. By 1972, the Imperial Valley campus had solved that problem.

85% of the student body (as of 2008) is Hispanic.
