HOUSER PAINTING
The large painting hanging in the Reference area was created in 1939 or 1940 by SDSU art instructor Lowell Houser and his students (James Clark, Delbert Cole, Betty Carringer, Charlotte Hamrick, Henry Wiegand, Francita Butler, and Fred Meiers) in the Art Department. It originally hung above the arches in the Hardy Tower entrance, which was the first library on campus. It is painted in a style reminiscent of the Mexican muralists, which is not surprising since Houser was influenced by this artistic tradition through his frequent trips to Mexico.
