CLICKERS
Use Firefox rather than IE.
When students are registering their clickers - they are told by their instructor to do it via Blackboard or CPS. Documents to help with this are at the following site: http://clicker.sdsu.edu/student_start.html
If a student asks for a class code, they are registering the wrong way. The CPS link in Blackboard is not simply a shortcut to the CPS website. If students register through the Bb site, their responses go into the Bb gradebook. They only need pad id (which appears on the screen when they turn it on - r###...), their email address and an extensive enrollment code printed on a piece of paper from the bookstore.
If the students are past this point and still seem to have a problems, please do not send them to the SCC. Per Jim Julius: they should email the Blackboard tech support (bb@einstruction.com). In their email, please include: your student information, the error message you see, the number of times the process has failed, and the browser(s) you have made the attempts with. Support for our students is part of choosing this product.
PREVIOUS YEAR'S INSTRUCTIONS
I have helped a few students register their clickers (audience response systems) bought from the bookstore for use in some classes. Some students are still in this process so I thought all of you might find the following instructions helpful. The previous directions provided by faculty and the company proved problematic.
If the student just bought the clicker and it is still in the box, they need to check how their professor has indicated on how to register. Some faculty are doing it through Blackboard and some through the company itself - CPS or eInstruction.
The following website goes through instructions for both. Note that they will need to turn on the clicker for one serial number and then use the paper in the new clicker box for the registration number.
Please note that students NEVER have to pay any more during registration. We are a unique school in our licensing in that we have the students pay the fee up front at the bookstore but other institutions do it each semester. We are still working out a few of the bugs on this issue.
Finally, students may be registering to use it in additional classes and they should write down the "seat number" provided at the end of each registration as in one class they may be #23 but in another class #248. Faculty can easily update rosters using these systems since the equipment is affiliated with each student.

If you want to try to begin developing resources to use with clickers you can do an SR to have the free CPS for PC full release software (or for Mac if you have a Mac) loaded on your computer. This software is available from the E-instruction website downloads page at http://www.einstruction.com/Downloads/index.cfm so then you can do development in your office.
For faculty getting started with using clickers, you can go to the website http://clicker.sdsu.edu/faculty_start.html for information about getting started and training. You need to modify some of the information described here because it is for faculty whose students registrations is associated with clickers. We have a simpler system in which that is not part of the mix.
If you have any questions, feel free to call me or contact Jim Julius, Associate Director of ITS.
