DONATIONS OF BOOKS
Procedures on gift books at the reference desk:
If you are approached by someone who wants to donate materials to the Library, here is what to do:
- If the person has brought in the materials, accept them no matter what they are and thank them. If they ask, explain that the Library reserves the right to decide what to do with them.
- If the person is inquiring about donating to the Library, please refer them to Edward DiBella, Gifts Coordinator. Edward is at x41650 and works at the Circulation/Reserves Desk.
Note that you may point out (in a polite way) that we cannot accept the following materials: textbooks, most mass-market paperbacks, popular magazines, U.S. government publications, material in poor condition, material with markings (unless by a famous person), outmoded formats (8-track tapes, electronic material requiring dated software, etc.).
Patrons MUST sign special forms in order to get tax deductions. These will all be placed in a folder in the reference desk drawers under GIFT BOOKS.
For details, you can refer to the full gift policy, send them to Edward, or have them look at http://infodome.sdsu.edu/about/giftpol.shtml
